Today I'd like to share with you a little known fact about older and even obsolete DC drives.  These days it's becoming more difficult to find many of the old "tried and true" DC drives from yesteryear.  But here at Carotron, we may hold the key to your problem when trying to determine whether or not to replace an older or obsoleted DC drive.  Many of our customers come to us with this very concern.  And our response is often given in the form of a simple question....

"Is the DC motor in question still in good operating condition, and can it be well-maintained?"

If the answer is "Yes" then Carotron can often provide a reliable replacement for the DC drive, even if it's a different brand than our own.  If the answer is "No" we can still help by providing a reliable AC drive and inverter drive system.  Either way, we will do our best to find the most cost-effective solution.

Consider our latest DC drive addition to the Carotron Family, the Elite Pro Series.  This series features regen and non-regen drives.  The heart of the Elite Pro is a high speed Digital Signal Processor (DSP) that is engineered to handle a wide range of motor control applications.  It can handle basic control algorithms along with advanced algorithms for system functions, such as PID dancer controls, winder controls, tension controls, and customized control functions to meet user requirements.

Ratings for the Elite Pro Series:

20 - 700HP at 460vac, 3 PH, 50/60 Hz input
10 - 300HP at 230vac, 3 PH, 50/60 Hz input

Now...how does this particular drive series fit into the picture when your company's older drive goes on the blitz?  Our Elite Pro Series of drives generally replaces both regen and non-regen models.

What about larger applications?  Here are two tough applications in which larger models of the Elite Pro drive were installed.

Application #1:  Plastic Extruder DC Drive Retrofit

Carotron has had tremendous success in large plastics extrusion plants replacing several older DC drives of various manufacturers.  Plant managers have been very happy with the state-of-the-art drive as well as the wide range of inputs, outputs, and programmable functions of the Elite Pro.

Application #2:  Wire Drawing

Companies in the wire drawing industry are moving cautiously to upgrade their aging equipment.  Notice the photo below.  It features an eight-drive retrofit assembly using Elite Pro drives, which replaced an old system whose controls were not supported by the manufacturer.  *Note:  Carotron still services and fully supports the first products we built back in 1984!
